Validity of Driver’s Licenses
1. The validity of driver’s licenses is set forth in Presidential Decree 51/2012 (A’ 101).
2. The offense for anyone caught driving a moped, motorcycle, motorized tricycle, light quadricycle, quadricycle, or car while their driver’s license or the corresponding license category has expired is classified as Category E2-A. At the same time, the driver’s license document is confiscated by the competent enforcement authority and sent to the competent Regional Department of Transport and Communications that issued it, or to the department in the area where the holder declares his or her residence. A new driver’s license will be issued following its renewal.
The specific provisions of Law 3446/2006 (A’49) apply to the relevant violation concerning trucks.
The specific provisions of Law 4070/2012 (A’82) apply to the relevant violation concerning the special driver’s license for drivers of public passenger vehicles.
3. The offense committed by a person caught driving a truck or bus while their Certificate of Professional Competence has expired, in accordance with Presidential Decree 74/2008 (A’ 112), is classified as Category E3-A. At the same time, the competent enforcement authority shall confiscate and sent to the competent Regional Transport and Communications Service that issued it or to the one in the region where the holder declares residence. A new driver’s license form is issued following the renewal of the P.E.I.
