Chassis and Engine Identification Information

1. The frame or body of motor vehicles, their trailers, three-wheeled vehicles, and motorcycles must bear the manufacturer’s name, the details identifying the vehicle type, and its serial number. On the engine of the vehicles referred to in the preceding paragraph, the details identifying the engine type and its serial number shall be marked.

2. Before replacing or repairing a part of the body or frame of automobiles, three-wheeled vehicles, and motorcycles, which results in the complete or partial removal or alteration in whole or in part, the make and chassis number, the owners must notify, prior to the work, the competent local offices of the decentralized administration, which shall then engrave the license plate number or chassis number in another suitable location.

3. Any violation committed by the owner of a vehicle falling under the categories specified herein who falsifies or removes the vehicle identification details referred to in paragraph 1, as well as by anyone who carries out such falsification or alteration, shall be classified under Category E3-B and shall be punishable by imprisonment for up to one (1) year and the permanent revocation of the vehicle’s registration, which shall be imposed by the court.

4. A violation committed by the owner of a vehicle falling under the categories set forth herein, or by the person performing the replacement or repair referred to in paragraph 2, without complying with the procedure provided for therein, shall be classified as Category E3-B and is punishable by imprisonment for up to one (1) year and by the revocation of the vehicle’s registration for a period of one (1) to three (3) months, to be imposed by the court.
