Article 78

Lights for mopeds and motorcycles

1. Three-wheeled mopeds are equipped with: a) One (1) or two (2) turn signals,

(b) one (1) or two (2) rear position lights; (c) one (1) or two (2) brake lights; (d) one (1) or two (2) non-triangular reflectors on each side;

(e) one (1) non-triangular rear reflector; (f) two (2) reflectors on each footrest, when they are not foldable.

Two-wheeled mopeds may also be equipped with:

a) One (1) or two (2) headlights, b) two (2) turn signals on each side, c) lights to illuminate the license plate,

(d) one (1) or two (2) front position lights, (e) one (1) non-triangular front reflector.

2. Three-wheeled mopeds and light four-wheeled vehicles are equipped with:

a) One (1) or two (2) turn signals. b) One (1) or two (2) front position lights. Three-wheeled mopeds with a maximum width exceeding one thousand three hundred (1,300) millimeters are equipped with two (2) front position lights.

c) One (1) or two (2) rear position lights. Three-wheeled mopeds with a maximum width exceeding one thousand three hundred (1,300) millimeters are equipped with two (2) rear position lights.

d) One (1) or two (2) non-triangular rear reflectors. Three-wheeled mopeds with a maximum width exceeding one thousand (1,000) millimeters must be equipped with two (2) non-triangular rear reflectors.

(e) Two (2) reflectors on each footrest, when they are not foldable.

(f) One (1) or two (2) brake lights. Three-wheeled mopeds with a maximum width of one thousand three hundred (1,300) millimeters are equipped with two (2) brake lights.

(g) Two (2) turn signals on each side for three-wheeled mopeds with an enclosed body.

In addition, three-wheeled mopeds may also be equipped with: a) one (1) or two (2) headlights, b) two (2) turn signals on each side, for three-wheeled mopeds without an enclosed body, c) lights to illuminate the license plate,

(d) one (1) or two (2) non-triangular reflectors on each side.

3. Two-wheeled motorcycles are equipped with: a) One (1) or two (2) headlights,

b) one (1) or two (2) turn signals, c) two (2) turn signals on each side, d) one (1) or two (2) brake lights, e) one (1) or two (2) front position lights, f) one (1) or two (2) rear position lights, g) a light for illuminating the rear license plate, h) one (1) non-triangular rear reflector.

In addition, two-wheeled motorcycles may also be equipped with:

a) One (1) or two (2) front fog lights, b) one (1) or two (2) rear fog lights, c) one (1) emergency light, d) one (1) or two (2) non-triangular reflectors on each side.

4. Two-wheeled motorcycles with a side-mounted fuel tank are equipped with:

a) One (1) or two (2) headlights, b) one (1) or two (2) taillights, c) two (2) turn signals on each side, d) one (1) or two (2) brake lights, e) two (2) or three (3) front position lights, one (1) of which is on the basket,

(f) two (2) or three (3) rear position lights, one (1) of which is mounted on the basket,

(g) a light to illuminate the rear license plate,

(h) two (2) non-triangular rear reflectors. In addition, two-wheeled motorcycles with a side basket may also be equipped with: a) one (1) or two (2) front fog lights, b) one (1) or two (2) rear fog lights, c) one (1) emergency light, d) one (1) or two (2) non-triangular reflectors on each side.

5. The electrical system of the motorcycle and sidecar is designed so that the position lights (front and rear) on the sidecar turn on at the same time as the motorcycle’s rear position light.

6. The lights specified in paragraphs 3 and 4 must meet the specifications regarding color, intensity, and placement, as specified for the corresponding lights on motor vehicles, excluding mopeds, which are equipped with moderate-intensity headlights.

7. Violations committed by a person who puts into service, as well as those who drive any of the above vehicles that are not equipped with the lights specified above and that do not function in accordance with this article, are classified in category E2-A.
