Article 61

Braking of Vehicle Combinations

1. Without prejudice to Article 59, concerning the use of wheel chocks for motor vehicles, and Article 60, concerning the use of wheel chocks for trailers, the following requirements apply to vehicle combinations:

(a) The braking systems of each of the coupled vehicles must be interconnected,

(b) the force of the running brake is distributed appropriately and synchronized among the coupled vehicles; and

(c) the maximum permissible weight of the trailer, which, if applicable, is not equipped with a parking brake, shall not exceed half the sum of the unloaded weight of the towing vehicle and the driver’s weight.

2. Violations of this provision by a person who places a vehicle on the road, as well as by a driver of a vehicle combination that is not equipped with a wheel-locking system as specified in paragraph 1, are classified under category E2-B.
