Emissions and Noise

1. The operation and driving of any road vehicle are prohibited if it: a) emits substances or products that are harmful to human health or that pollute the environment beyond the permitted limits, b) generally causes noise in excess of the permitted limits due to its movement and operation.

2. Violations of paragraph 1 are classified under category E3-B and category S, and the vehicle’s registration plates are impounded on the spot. The confiscated documents are retained by the competent authority until the offender presents a certificate from the competent department of the Regional Unit confirming the vehicle’s compliance with exhaust emissions or noisenoise levels.

Those who fail to comply with the requirement to obtain an emissions inspection card are subject to the penalties set forth in Article 4 of Presidential Decree 363/1995 (A’ 193).

3. Drivers of road vehicles are required not to disturb other road users, pedestrians, or people on the street by causing, among other things, noise from the use of a sound system or any other source, dust, smoke, or the spilling of liquids. Violations of the first paragraph are classified under Category E3-B and Category S.
