Signage for Roadwork

1. When roadwork is being performed, all traffic signs required as appropriate (warning, regulatory, and informational) shall be placed in appropriate locations, in accordance with Article 14, regarding the installation of traffic signs and signals.

2. The boundaries of work being performed on the roadway and the areas designated for material storage are marked by placing continuous or broken barriers, which feature alternating red and white stripes.

At night, if the obstacles are not reflective, lights and reflective devices must be used; the reflective elements and steady lights used for this purpose shall be red, and if flashing lights are used, they shall be deep yellow.

As an exception:

(a) lights and reflective devices visible only from one (1) direction of traffic, which mark the boundaries of roadwork on the opposite side of the street, are white,

(b) Lights and reflective markers that indicate the boundaries of roadwork and separate the two (2) directions of traffic shall be white or light yellow.

3. The signage referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2 shall be installed under the supervision and responsibility of the contractors or those performing the work and, in cases where the work is carried out on a cost-reimbursement basis, by the project supervisor. The entities that construct the various road projects or contract their construction to third parties shall verify the installation of the signage.

4. Violations involving the failure to install and maintain the above-mentioned signage, improper installation, and failure to remove them upon completion of the work described herein are classified as Category E4 and are punishable by an administrative fine of one thousand five hundred (1,500) euros and imprisonment for up to twelve (12) months, regardless of whether the creation of danger, damage, or harm is punishable separately under other provisions.
