Article 10

Traffic lights for cyclists

1. Cyclists must obey the signals of traffic lights designated specifically for them, unless traffic is being directed differently by traffic officers, as follows:

a) a steady green light with a bicycle symbol: The cyclist proceeds straight ahead or turns right or left, unless another signal or sign prohibits proceeding straight ahead or turning. Even if the traffic light is green, a cyclist traveling straight ahead must yield the right of way to a vehicle, bicycle, or pedestrian that is still moving from a previous traffic signal, while they are turning, they must yield to cyclists or pedestrians who are traveling on the street they are about to enter,

b) a steady red light with a bicycle symbol: The cyclist must stop before the designated stop line or, if there is no such line, at a sufficient distance from the traffic signal so that the signal is clearly visible to them and must remain stationary until the green bicycle signal lights up. Cyclists are required not to enter the intersection and not to ride on pedestrian or bicycle crossings if the traffic signal is located in the middle or on the opposite side of the intersection,

c) a steady yellow light with a bicycle symbol: The cyclist must stop, as in subparagraph b), unless he or she is so close to the traffic signal that it is not possible to stop safely, d) a single or double yellow light with a bicycle symbol that is flashing:

Cyclists should slow down, proceed with extreme caution, and yield to pedestrians, other cyclists, and vehicles.

(e) a green light with a bicycle symbol and one (1) or more arrows below it:

The cyclist may proceed only in the direction indicated by the arrow or arrows. An arrow pointing upward indicates that the cyclist must proceed straight ahead.

(f) a red light with a bicycle symbol and (1) an arrow below it:

Cyclists are prohibited from riding in the direction indicated by the arrow and must stop their bicycles, just as they must before a red bicycle symbol.

(g) a yellow light with a bicycle symbol and one (1) arrow below it, which is steady or flashing: The cyclist has the same obligations as before a yellow bicycle symbol.

2. Traffic signals at shared crossings for bicycles and pedestrians:

a) a green light with a symbol of a person walking and a green bicycle symbol below it:

Pedestrians and cyclists may cross the roadway.

b) a red light with a symbol of a person standing still and a red bicycle symbol below it:

Pedestrians and cyclists are prohibited from crossing the roadway.

c) a green light with a symbol of a person walking and a flashing green bicycle symbol below it:

Pedestrians and cyclists should cross the street with extreme caution.

3. Traffic lights at a bicycle-only crossing: a) green light with a bicycle symbol:

Cyclists may cross the roadway. b) Red light with a bicycle symbol:

Cyclists are prohibited from crossing the roadway.

c) A flashing green bicycle symbol: Cyclists may cross the roadway, exercising extreme caution.

4. If a cyclist is caught on the crosswalk when the traffic signal is red (showing the bicycle-stop symbol), they are entitled to continue on their way to the opposite side of the street.

5. Traffic lights are mounted vertically, with the red light always at the top and the green light always at the bottom.

6. Violations of this provision are classified in category E1-A, with the exception of the violations referred to in subparagraphs (b) and (f) of paragraph 1, which are classified in category E2-A.
